To Put Off A Fire

Yesterday there was a protest at the Saint Mark Cathedral at Abessiya, a group of Christians came from Upper Egypt to protest the disappearance of some underage girl ; of course they blame Muslims for her disappearance and they even chanted that interesting chants “Gamal you will be the president , kidnapping our girls is not good !!” I do not know if this is a warning for Gamal or what but this chant shows to what level some people are taking for granted that Gamal Mubarak will be the president of this country.

Anyhow Gamal Mubarak is not our issue , our issue is these Christian women and girls disappearance cases creating fires no one wants to put off for real for the sake of the unity of this nation.

The incident of that girl from Upper Egypt happened after few weeks from the huge protests following the sudden disappearance of Camilla Shehata , the wife of that priest in Upper Egypt too.

Camilla officially returned back to the Church after staying for a while in her relatives’ house as she had a big fight with his priest husband , yes officially there were huge protests provoking Muslims because the family of Camilla knew about her fight with her husband and they refused to stop this circus. It was like a blow especially it came at the same time of divorce issue in the Church.

We thought that this circus would be over when Camilla appeared but we were more than wrong , it has just started. Camilla was found by the Police and the Police took her to the Church which sent her not to her home or her parents’ family but rather  to unknown monastery !!

Then came the media race between newspapers that found out or rather claimed to be accurate that Camilla actually converted to Islam and Al Azhar let her down by sending her to the police which sent her to the Church. Dostor and Youm 7 are racing on publishing documents and photos they claim that prove her conversion to Islam. Now many Muslims believe that Camilla has been kidnapped and currently is being held captive and is brainwashed by the Church joining her sister Wafaa Constantine whom many believe was killed and buried in some monastery for converting to Islam.

Personally I find it hard to believe that Al Azhar let down Camilla or another converter in this way still what annoys me is the fact that Camilla has not appeared for once to speak about herself in public. The Church is insisting that she did not convert , well if she is still Christian ,why she does not come out from that monastery and stop that fire from spreading and destroying this nation !!??

What I am amazed from is the position of the human rights and women organizations in this country , they are so silent despite there is a possibility that a lady is being captive somewhere against her own well possibly because of her religious belief or even because her fight with her priest husband according to the official story. Do not these human rights organizations believe in the freedom of belief !!??

The Church can stop all this , it can put off this fire , if they let Camilla come out and say the truth; Christianity will not end if Camilla becomes a Muslim and Islam will not lose a thing  if Camilla turns to be a Christian who suffers from bad marriage ; I know some Church men will think that both situations will make the Church look bad because we are speaking here about a priest’s wife but we are here dealing with unity and safety of this nation; its true national security .

Not only Camilla but also Wafaa Constantine too to close that door once and for all. Sometimes silence is not the best way to handle things with.

  1. No the slogan they used shows to what extent the Church is controlling a good percentage of Christians and to what extent those running this circus have forgotten that they are Egyptians after all and that their political support should go to the one who will help us move forward and not to be decided or handed out in such a selfish and irresponsible manner like that.
Havent they learned any thing? Havent they learned that the regime has used them and abused them, the same way they have used us all and abused us all? Dont they care for this country?!!! The situation in Egypt is becoming more and more disgusting.

  2. @Anon 9:09. Your argument is the same simple argument that has failed Egypt for generations. First, stop talking about Copts as "they": each individual makes his decision on what he wants to protest for or against. Christians are not controlled by the church. Some support Gamal because he is secular. Many Egyptian Muslim liberals seem to think that all you need is democratic elections; but no, that is not enough. No intelligent Copt supports democracy unless there are protections for minorities; many Egyptians do not recognize or accept this.

The situation in Egypt is only disgusting because you keep talking about unity without dealing with the underlying issues! It is like calling Martin Luther King disgusting in the 1950s because he was leading protests!

  4. @Second Anon: I clearly qualified my comments to those mentioned in the article, i.e. those running to protest on expressed or unexpressed church orders and I clearly referred to control over a good percentage and not all. Of course there are Muslims and Christians who support Gamal for different reasons but what is clear is that the Church has allowed it self to play a political game and to exploit its followers in that game. The regime is using MBH as the fear factor to push the Church to push its followers to support the NDP and Gamal. Not so long ago there were news of electoral lists prepared in Churches!! Every now and then we hear a statement from a prominent father about supporting the father and the son or NDP. Sure some Sheiks do the same, but let us remember for Muslims, the sheikhs do not have a heavenly authority over us.
Referring repeatedly to Gamal as the next president, or threats not to support him when things arent going as planned or agreed bet the regimes security and the Church is what is disgusting.

If you read my comment again you will discover that my underlying point is that we all need to think as Egyptians and realize that relying on this regime for security and rights wont get us any where. Christians need to make it clear that the Church doesnt represent them when it talks politics and even stand against the Church meddling in politics. Isnt this the same point taken against the MBH?
Also, Christians need to realize they are not the only ones suffering in Egypt, and until they see this as a general and not their own problem only, and until they rely on the ppl and not the regime that has let them down so many times, nothing will change. Egypt wont change as long as ppl like you refer to only Christians as Copts and still blame the general muslim public for their problems while its all clear who is creating these problems and who is behind them and who is not putting a legal leash on nut cases on both sides.
Last put not least, protesting every time a woman or a girl disappears and pointing fingers with ugly intentions at Muslims in general, will lead to the explosion of this country. If you are a reasonable person you will see how this is unfair and how dangerous this game being played several times now is.
